One of the most foundational philosophies in yoga is knowing how to work with the chakras. If you’ve just started taking yoga classes, you may have heard your teacher talk about them. But what do chakras even mean and what do each of them represent?
Let’s dive into the meaning behind the 7 chakras.
What Are Chakras
The idea of chakras comes from ancient India, dating back to 1500-500 BC, as described in the religious text called The Vedas. In the realm of yoga and spirituality, it’s believed that each person possesses two bodies: the physical body and the “subtle” body, composed of energy. These two bodies coexist, influencing each other.
The chakras are the main energetic points along the subtle body, situated along the spinal column, extending from the base of the spine to the crown of your head. Each chakra is intrinsically connected to different aspects of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Chakras can either be blocked or unblocked depending on your lifestyle. You can unblock them through lifestyle changes, along with meditation and yoga.
